Drawing – A Process that Starts with a Mark..

I would really like to thank my good friend Deanna Gracie, not only is she a dear friend but a fabulous Jewellery Designer living in South Shore Christchurch … http://www.nzjewellerydesign.com/news-blog for inspiring me to get back to drawing again !

I have a habbit of wherever I go I seem to collect interesting objects… so I have started out to draw some of the interesting things I have collected.

Just a quick tip!  sometimes it is easier to take a photo of what you are drawing to see it in a 2 dimensional way rather than the 3d way we see from our perspective… looking back at these quick sketches I can see lots of things that I needed to do to make them more 3d etc… but must admit haven’t drawn in a very long time… so will be trying to draw one a day for a while and will post on here.. will be interesting to look back and see the improvement over time 😉

Still life drawings

My entrance to the art world started about 36 years ago as a child…. “drawing”.

In those days I didn’t start out by drawing objects or  still life as I now know it, but used to copy from a favourite Walt Disney Book!

I have fond memories sitting for hours upon hours drawing, sketching, rubbing out, sketching some more and then adding colour to my finished sketches.   Then as I started High School I fell in love with the process of Art  and Painting, I painted my way through School, but  life flies by so quickly and as our lives get busier and busier, work, marriage and then family, over time I grew away from painting.  When my children were young around 5 and 10 I picked up a paint brush for the first time in years! and like an old glove I just slipped right back into it!

Who would have thought that sitting at my kitchen table at  7 yrs old nearly 36 years ago would have attributed to my major passion and focus in life today!

Thank you Deanna for 1st being a great friend and 2nd for reminding me of my Art Roots ! and allowing me to return to them for a while and share them with you all!

Playing around with colour, texture and mediums…

Life and Soul

I was playing around with different layers of colour, and creating the texture from rubbing off the colour and adding more colour, also using layers and layers of crackle medium.

This artwork is on board.  I was playing around with some “Golden” Fluid Acrylic paint, just to see what effect I could get from it…  I love this one! Its fun to just sit and stare at it, the more I look at it the more images I sea, like birds, fish, love hearts etc…

Still playing around with “Golden”Fluid Acrylic…. you can do so much with colour!

“Golden”  -Is such a beautiful product to work with!!

Playing with Crackle Medium is so much fun! There are several different mediums out there… so make sure you read the product as some are used between layers of paint while others are just painted over the top of paint…. I have used several colours on this artwork including an interference colour which allows the colours to change in different lights!!

Shhhhhhrrrrrrr…..don’t wake the family!!!!

It’s 5 past 10 and all is quiet in the house all my darlings are tucked up in bed…

 Peace at last lol!!

Boy its been so hectic around here …. We have been enjoying the beautiful hot days and long summer nights…

Gosh I had forgotten how wonderful summer holidays are… I love the whole not having to set your alarm to get up early… no having to make School lunches… and no running the kids to here there and everywhere…. schools… sport…. etc…

I thought since it was lovely and quiet and I think I have at least an hour of painting in me I might pick up a brush and keep plodding on with my Arrowtown artwork….

I finished off the stones yesterday.. so now have started with the grass and trees… will show you some more photos soon.

Well anyway… night night all have a good sleep talk to you soon.

Cheers D 😉

Never give up on your Dreams!!

Hi all, I hope you are all enjoying this holiday break and staying nice and safe!

New Year is just around the corner, and it seems to be around this time that we all start to look at our lives and start making New Years Resolutions ….

I was rushing around cleaning up the house and popped on one of my chrissy pressies to listen to …

I am sure I am one of the millions that got ‘Susan Boyle’s Cd “I Dream a Dream” for xmas heheh ….

But as I listened to her sing I Dream a Dream … and then had a look at what she wrote about this song it made me think  about our dreams…

Obviously from the musical ‘Les Mes’ It’s about a mother living in hard times very similar to my dream on a more personal level, of my “life gone by” with mum who died at the age of  91 and who’s “Dream” it was that I should ‘do something’ with my life.  Mum this is for you”  Susan Boyle

SUSAN BOYLE  proves to me that we should never give up on our ‘DREAMS’

My Latest work in progress Arrowtown…

I have been planning and working toward a Solo Exhibition to be held in 2011… and decided to paint larger more detailed works in oil for this… all artwork will be based on my own photography…
